CLMC Mission
The Community Living Management Corporation mission is to enhance the lives of adults with disabilities by providing supportive housing options in a family atmosphere; by adapting to their individual needs; and by maximizing their potential in way that integrate their lives with the community around them.

CLMC Pathways To Independence
A CLC participant actually said it best. While involved in a focus group exploring new “street names” for the CLMC, he was asked what the Community Living Center meant to him.  His response was an articulate description of the “gateways” to the community that were opened to him as a result of the support and services provided by the CLC.

These  “pathways to independence” as the “gateways” have become known, are actually the various ways many residents discover to move to a more independent living setting with essential support.

“They have met the criteria, and after a year or two many of our residents move on,” explains MaryAnne Macy, CMLC Executive Director.  “In fact, over 200 of the participants in our program have made the move to independent living since the CLC opened its doors in 1978.”

For many residents the next move is to the Community Living Apartments (CLA), a 10-unit complex and one apartment for an overnight staff person.  At the CLA in scheduled sessions, the TRAIL (Traverse Regionl Assisted Independent Living) program staff oversee the individuals’ progress and safety by training, monitoring and supervising the same adult learning skills learned at the CLC.

TRAIL also serves individuals who live in Traverse City in their homes and apartments.  Participants in the program are assisted with management of any health needs.  The staff assist with medication, provide transport to medical appointments, and track recovery from surgery.  Families and guardians assist with this according to their preferences.
